Day scope selection

Day scope selection is important, and must have the following attributes to get the most from rear attachment:

Cheaper day scopes such MTC, Burris, Hawke etc. work best. This is due to little or no IR coating on the lenses, therefore increasing the amount of light transfer to the NV sensor.

Top end scopes such as Swarovski Zeiss etc. have very good IR coatings and tend not to work as well.

Day scopes should have parallax adjustment or rear dioptre adjustment to focus the cross hair while viewing through the unit. Day scopes without this feature will produce a blurred cross hair, so check this before buying.

Day scope adapter

The unit comes with an aluminium adapter which can be fixed on to the rear of your day scope. It is a bayonet fitting ½ turn adapter which is easy to use. This allows for quick attachment and detachment.

Additional adapters can be purchased from us.

The adapter has a maximum internal diameter of 45mm so the rear dioptre of the day scope must be 45mm diameter or less to allow the adapter to fit on rear of day scope.

Internal IR and selecting external IR

The Internal IR is very capable in spotter mode at night. It’s good to 150 yards in this mode. At close range, 50 yards to 100 yards, the image is very clear and is focusable.

When fitted to a day scope, IR light transmission is reduced due to reduction in the day scope tube diameter. To combat this, a powerful IR is recommended to produce a good picture. This is a common trait on rear attachment NV units. Using the right IR will give you a good clean picture at a useable fox shooting distance out to 200 yards.

I tested it with the Nightmaster NM800, Laserluchs 5000, Pulsar X850 and PBIR-X.  The best result was with the PBIR-X, which is a compact unit at a reasonable cost of £99. I have also heard a good laser IR unit such as the Dragon Fly also works well. T67 and T75 units also produce good results but can be bulky.

Battery

The unit uses 1 x 18650 type battery, common to the Nightmaster and T range torches.

On 3 outings over 1-2 hrs each, the 2600Mah Nightmaster battery I used lasted with power left to spare. This was leaving the unit on constantly, so battery life is very good.

There is also a standby feature to reduce the light on dioptre and save battery life.

Laser designator

A nice feature is the laser pointer which is effective to about 100 yards. This is handy when trying to point out quarry in long grass.

Focus control

There are 2 methods of focus. Front focus for getting a sharp picture in the day scope - really nice to use, and a rear dioptre focus to suit the users eye.

More than One Gun

This unit can be clipped on several different rifles without the need to re zero - providing the day scope meets the criteria set out above.

Wifi and Recording Feature

The Wifi function allows you to stream to a phone or tablet. The unit takes an SD card for recording which can be played back on the unit or downloaded via a USB cable.
